Purpose

The purpose of the Centre for Human Values has as its primary purpose to enable individuals to become selfless through the practice of the universal human values of Love, Truth, Peace, Right Action and Non-Violence. This is undertaken through the various programs that are offered for refinement of one`s character. These human values when practiced bring about transformation, at an individual level which goes onto better outcomes for the family, community, nation and the world.

Who can participate in the Programs offered by the Centre for Human Values?

It is open to all, at no cost. The Centre for Human Values brings together people of various backgrounds irrespective of religion, ethnicity, age who wish to explore the common aspects of humanity. Programs are developed which are non-evangelical and non-proselytising to cater for the needs of the community. The emphasis is to universal and not confined to a particular religion or dogma.

It follows the ability to look at the human condition in today`s world, “The proper study of mankind is man” - Alexander Pope's An Essay on Man (1733) and looks deeply at the wisdom of the philosophers such as Socrates, 'Know thyself' (gnothi seauton), famously adopted by Socrates from the Delphic maxims, is the philosophical imperative to understand one's own soul, character, strengths, and weaknesses. Socrates deemed self-examination essential for a meaningful, virtuous life, arguing that 'the unexamined life is not worth living'.

Contribution to the education sector.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba`s contribution to the education sector has been recognised since 1968, with the establishment of the first Institute of Higher Learning ( deemed University) for Women in Anantapur. ( Campuses – Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning (SSSIHL) Integral education at Sathya Sai institutes is a values-based system designed by Sri Sathya Sai Baba to develop a well-rounded personality by combining academic excellence with spiritual, physical, and emotional growth. The five human values of Truth, Right Conduct, Peace, Love and Non-violence form the undercurrent of all the dimensions of integral education. The Institutes serve as a model and are ranked among the top ten in India, producing outstanding results onan ongoing basis. The entire education in all Sathya Sai Institutes are offered at no cost to the student.Integral Education dimensions help develop a strong character and positive qualities in students, including a broadened perspective on life, self-confidence and self- reliance, dignity of labour and respect for work, determination, dedication and commitment, sense of equanimity, creativity and innovation, teamwork, selfless service, leadership, entrepreneurship, time management and the quest forexcellence.
