Sai Bhajana Bina Sukha Shanthi Nahin - Sai Connection through Sai Bhajans

Sai Bhajans are the breath of my/our life. I can't call myself a great singer; still, our most beloved Swami, in all his divine compassion, gave me chances to sing Bhajans for Him in various Sai samitis. He was so loving that He made me sing for Him in His divine presence several times. These are janma-janmantara punya.

The lyrics, tunes, ragam, rhythm, meaning, bhavam—at times even the singer—tend to have a lasting influence on me. Actually, the Bhajans tend to mould me, sculpt me, and channelise me in the bliss path.

Every Bhajan has a unique flavour of Bhakti. Nothing is superior or not-so-superior. How can we say which crystal in a heap of sugar is the sweetest? All are Divine nectarine.

Some Bhajans are a plea, asking for His Grace, His Mercy, His Darshan, His Love, and many more in melodic Bhakti. Bhagawan, being Stotra-priyan, Bhakta-vatsalan, Daya-sagaran, Kripa-samudran, is always ready to shower His blessings... 'Premamrutha Barsao Baba'... a soul-touching Bhajan.

A Bhajan can pour more of the ecstatic agony: a tearful cry for His helping hand, a downpour of total helplessness, a total surrender with hope of salvation... 'Nandalala Nandalala Dayakaro Bhagawan'.

Some Bhajans are so complete, proclaiming He is everything to us. 'Sai Pitha Aur Matha Sai...' This Bhajan totally engulfs and captivates the body, mind, intellect, and soul that I get so involved. Tears flow from my eyes; what else? The lyrics, tune, and meaning all converge as one, including the singer and the listener, in perfect symphony. My ability to comprehend Sai gets totally quashed, and I just merge into Him in absolute oneness. This Bhajan has His Name, His Attributes, His Magnificence, His Love, all in one. Every time I sing or hear it, it provides a new insight and enriches me. It vibrates in the chambers of my heart, every vein, and throbs in every heartbeat. In Bhajans, time is not fleeting. Actually, time stops, so that even Kalam (time) stops and listens to the Bhajans in deep adoration.

There are Bhajans with a built-in rhythm of dance. 'Rama Rama Sairam Seetha Rama Radhe Shyam'... I can close my eyes and feel the song dancing in a divine, graceful slow waltz, with a tapping heartbeat as talam. I can visualise our Swami standing, swaying so beautifully, with the gentle breeze, His silky hair caressing His face. An enchanting darshan even the angels of heaven cannot have or imagine.

Every Bhajan speaks and conveys a mesmerizing tale of Swami. Words fail to express, and only hearts can feel. Darshan, Sparshan, and Sambhashan are the three gifts of His divine Love, everybody says. Still, Bhajans carry so many thoughts and feelings, and this Ananda is Anantha.

Loving Sai Ram.

Smt. Vatsala Jagannathan
